Hello world, I’m Anika! I’ve always described myself in multi-hyphenates, so here goes: I’m a software engineer-artist-dancer-aspirational writer. In high school, I was a student-golfer-referee-crochetist-aspirational vlogger. In college, I was a student-hairdresser-plant mom. And now, I am all of those things and more.
For the last couple of months, I’ve been reading my high school blog, reminiscing, and wondering why I ever stopped. In my previous blog I talked about Bollywood movies, school, and TV shows. Somehow, through the few entries I wrote, I was able to capture my high school essence. The use of colorful vocabulary and excessive adjectives best characterized Little Anika.
I was always inspired by creators and felt like I wanted to participate too. In high school and since then, I’ve tried forms of sharing my life, like blogging, vlogging, and TikToking. At the end of the day though, it is always my journal that I come back to to record my thoughts, opinions, and adventures. I think I stopped sharing on a public platform because I didn’t want to dilute the internet with mediocre content or embarrass myself. I felt like a jack of all trades, master of none. Now, I feel like a jack of all trades, mediocre at some. That’s a good enough reason for me to try again now.
So I’m back once again, with more stories. I find it hard to write far away from my own life experience. Perhaps one day my wild imagination will take root on paper. Until then, I’ll continue practicing to write about my own life and findings. My vocabulary isn’t as extensive as it was when I was a student, but I’m probably using adjectives more correctly these days (I recall using “frigid” to describe California weather a lot in my elementary school writing…).
I’m excited to share my opinions on pop culture happenings, review books, and even try covering technical topics. Lately at work, I’ve been submitting a lot of 15-page approach documents for review. So, I know there’s something about writing and delivering a refined piece that’s satisfying to me. Welcome to the conversation! I’m so excited to be here.
