I realized I’ve already put The Tortured Poets Department and Taylor Swift as Slays of the Week in the past, so I can’t put them again this week (or perhaps I can… I haven’t made official rules for SOTW yet).

Slay #1: $2.97 Ben and Jerry’s
My besite came through this week with the digital coupon for $2.97 Ben and Jerry’s at the grocery store. What a steal. I’m currently having a nondairy moment so I tried their nondairy version of “Phish Food”, the best flavor I’ve found so far. I will admit, I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t as creamy as I imagined (to be fair, I was imagining ice cream). I think I would have liked this better the base was banana “nice cream” or coconut milk instead of oat milk. There was also a fair amount of plant-based protein powder in the listed ingredients (but not enough I suppose to contribute to the nutritional value significantly), but I wonder if that’s where the weird aftertaste came from. I probably would try a vanilla base nondairy flavor from Ben and Jerry’s (Phish Food has a chocolate base), but for $2.97 instead of full price.
Slay #2: Secret Double Albums
31 songs!! I’ll admit, I was daunted at first by the length of this album and at first listen, everything started to sound the same after an hour and a half. However, this album is growing on me and it has my slay stamp of approval. It’s certainly difficult to relate to the lyrics in TTPD, especially if we consider it as autobiographical with all the drama behind the scenes. I think Taylor is down with the dark and twisties, and this album is us sitting with her through it.
Slay #3: DIY Sewing
It is such a flex, first of all, to thrift something and then, second, to go even further and transform it through sewing. I am not at that stage yet, but I aspire to be. I bought two pieces recently that needed alterations and I’m proud to say that I hand-stitched them myself!! My dream one day is to develop that “eye” where you can transform the potential of a scarf into a halter top, for example, or fashion a dress into a two-piece set.
Slay #4: Digicams
I love my Panasonic Lumix mirrorless camera, but it’s too bulky for on-the-go social photography. I wish I was more honest with myself when I bought the camera (I imagined myself lugging it around in my purse… at 1.5 lbs it is simply too much weight to carry). But even so, I still would have purchased it; I feel like that camera is unbeatable when it comes to portrait photography (compared to my iPhone).
Nevertheless, I still felt like I needed a camera that can fit in my purse. Enter the Sony Cybershot, acquired this week from Facebook Marketplace. I’ve been obsessed with this camera; I love all the photos I’ve taken with it so far. I’m still very much a novice when it comes to cameras/photography (I learned this week that cameras have a maximum memory size compatibility… which explained why I was having so much trouble connecting a 128 GB SD card to the camera). I’m not sure what it is about these cameras that seem to perform better than my iPhone. Is it the sensor size? The lens size? I’m not sure yet what the technical terms are for it.
Slay #5: Native Wildflowers
I saw a reel the other day joking about how as we get older, people suddenly become more interested in birding. I think the same goes for plant identification. I was at a park the other day and got so excited to be able to point out, “oh look, those are irises” or “nice, there’s some wild sages”. I guess getting older isn’t that bad.
Have a great week ahead!!
