This week, one of my coworkers messaged me, “you are slay”. It made my day and while I do generally love being a slay ambassador at work, I will admit that this week did not feel very “slay”. What with impending work deadlines and getting The Bachelor winner spoiled, I had a hard time locking in on the carefree mentality SOTW is all about. Nevertheless, there were still positive moments worth sharing that made my week special.
This week’s slays:
- Tere Sang Ishq Hua
- Dune: Part Two
- Basil Street-Style Pork
- Slays of the Week
- Seeing a Caterpillar (Again!)
Slay #1: Tere Sang Ishq Hua
I think Yodha is actually going to wreck me. Zindagi Tere Naam was already a perfect “main” song for this movie with its intense, meditative, “I’m literally devoting my life to you” type vibe, so for this song to come out on top of it? I’m done. My week truly turned a corner when this song released, and I haven’t stopped listening to it since.
Slay #2: Dune Part Two
I feel like Denis Villeneuve is serving up the biggest bowl of cinema soup with the new Dune movies. I saw Dune Part Two this week and I was blown away by the “spice-y” plot and cinematography. Austin Butler’s appearance was a fun treat, even though he was missing eyebrows; I didn’t know Anya Taylor-Joy and Florence Pugh were going to be in it either (arguably, Anya Taylor-Joy was not in the film). I was hooked for the whole 2.5 hours and find myself wondering, along with the rest of viewers everywhere, if there’s going to be a third movie. I couldn’t help but compare Dune to the Star Wars series, probably because I’m not the biggest science fiction fan, and I feel like the Dune characters are just more edgy and complex so far. However, I still need to read the Dune books and watch The Clone Wars to get a good sense of what I’m actually comparing.
Slay #3: Basil Street-Style Pork
This is my second time making this pad krapow recipe from Jet Tila (I mentioned his Thai cookbook a few SOTW ago). It consistently hits the mark on flavor, texture, and presentation (although unfortunately, my photo is missing an egg, sunnyside-up). These recipes are golden (and affordable to make!) and I’m still slowly working my way through them.
Slay #4: SOTW
I’m choosing Slays of the Week as the #4 slay this week. This blog and SOTW only reach a few people in my life (the best ones!) and it’s awesome to see the impact in our interactions. It brings me so much joy to hear everyone share a slay of the week over the phone. I love the connection I’m getting from posting, and I love SOTW all the more for it!
Slay #5: Seeing a Caterpillar (Again!)
She’s so fast! Saw this cutie on my run today and couldn’t not take a photo of her. iNaturalist says she is a tiger moth caterpillar. I love nature!
Cheers to a new week! See the slay in your day and I will report back next Sunday.
